Aktiv font

Hello Monica or Industrial,

We are working on design of the marketing video and require the ISLG font.  According to the guidelines the font should be Aktiv. Would you be able to send that over please?

Thanks,
Tiffany

Hi Monica Martinez, Monolab Monica and Megan Goodacre, Industrial Megan ,

Further to Tiffany's request above, could we upload a copy of the fonts to a doc folder so that these are accessible as necessary going forward. We may need access to this for a variety of purposes.

Thanks,

Morgan

Hi Morgan,

Megan, have you purchased font licenses for Aktiv, already? I haven't. If we don't have any, we need to purchase them (I'm not allowed to "share" mine.) Let me know and I can help.

Thanks

Hi Monica,

Could you direct me to where I could purchase a license for the company?

Thanks,

Morgan

Monica Martinez, Monolab Monica , is this font we need to purchase: http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/daltonmaag/aktiv-grotesk/#index? Also, do you know how these licenses work? If I purchase it for Tologix, will we be able to allow suppliers (Quietly, DevIT, etc.) to use it as necessary, or is it tied to a specific computer?

Thanks,

Morgan

Monica Martinez, Monolab Monica , I'm reading through the license agreement on myfonts, and it's saying that webfont license can be up to $13,000. This is getting very pricey. We may have to consider other options if we can't figure out a solution that's reasonable.

Megan Goodacre, Industrial Megan and Melissa Cowell, General Manager at Industrial Melissa , do you have any suggestions on how we resolve this problem?

Thanks,

Morgan

We have access to the webfont through Typekit and can provide an embed code to the development team for all apps and websites. This will be valid as long as the Industrial license is in good standing.

This means you will only be required to purchase the desktop version for use in print and other applications if you so choose.

Alternatively, we can source a free use font.

Ok. Sounds good. Thanks Melissa Cowell, General Manager at Industrial Melissa .

Tiffany, Quietly Media Tiffany , after Monica Martinez, Monolab Monica confirms that this is the appropriate font: http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/daltonmaag/aktiv-grotesk/#index. I'll purchase a license, and send you the details for downloading the fonts.

Thanks,

Morgan

Perfect  - thanks Morgan.

The font we are currently using is Helvetica for the video - which looks pretty close to Aktiv. Helvetica was developed for print and from what I understand, Aktiv was developed to create a finer edge on digital screens - but is very similar to Helvetica.

Let us know when you have Aktiv as I imagine you will need to buy for the website and use on collateral - etc.

Thanks!

Hi Tiffany,

Sounds good. Using Helvetica for the video sounds fine with me ( Monica Martinez, Monolab Monica , does that work for you?).

Further to Mel's comment above, it looks like we'll be able to use their license for the time being. Do you need Aktiv for something else? Otherwise, it doesn't sound like purchasing an additional license is necessary at this point, or am I missing something?

Hi Morgan,

We can leave Helvetica in there for now and if/when we do get the Aktiv font, we recommend for brand consistency to have all ISLG collateral in the same font - however this is ultimately a design call. Happy for Monica to weigh in as I'm not a font expert!

Thanks,
Tiffany

Hi Morgan,

I recommend we use Aktiv on the video, it will look different than if we use Helvetica (which is Arial on a PC).

- To answer your question about font licenses, here's the info: basically, foundries don't want their fonts installed in computers that don't have a license for them but it's common practice for companies to allow vendors they work with, such as printers or video production companies to use their copies, while producing materials for them. It's a bit of a code of honour thing... There is no world "font police" per se but there have been cases where, for example, NBC used a font without owning a license, to design all their tv show promos. The foundry saw them, found out they didn't own a license and sued them.

- I can purchase the font licenses for the basic weights (Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic) on behalf of Tologix and then share them with Quiet.ly, if you want to.  (myfonts.com allows you to add the name of the owner of the license, when purchasing them). After all, I will use them to produce marketing materials. But, strictly speaking, Quiet.ly should by their own for the video.

Hi Monica,

Thank you for the font rundown. Yes, could please purchase the font on our behalf, and provide it to Quietly to be used in the video. Please include the cost in your next invoice, and then we'll use the license as necessary going forward.

Thanks,

Morgan

Tiffany, do you need a Regular and a Bold and/or others? Let me know and I'll get them for you.

Thanks
Tiffany, Quietly Media
Bold, Regular and Medium please. Thanks Monica.
