Dependent Field

I wanted to clarify one of the points:
"Also, I noticed that "ability to mark as changed" has the ability to create a new dependent field, but the "Dependent Field" option can only select from existing fields. Shouldn't you be able to create a new field here too?"

It looks like there was an error in the way that this was implemented. The dependent field check box was intended to indicate that the current field being created is dependent on another. Here is the acceptance criteria:

Selecting this option indicates that this field is dependent on another
Selecting 'dependent field' will activate subsequent options:
- Multi-entry Searchable dropdown of existing fields (to select parent of current field)
  - This will pull from the existing fields available for the content type
  - Parent field must exist within content type in order to add dependent fields

As it was designed, dependent fields would be created independently and linked to the parent field using the functionality described above. We would not want to offer the ability to add new parent field here as there are too many variables for parent fields. What do you think?

. That makes sense. However, does this mean you don't have an ability to assign a dependent field when you're editing the parent field (unless you select "Ability to mark as changed")? Because there might be instances where you want to assign a dependent field without adding the "Ability to mark as changed". Perhaps we should create an additional "Parent Field" option, which allows the user to assign the parent field, whereas the "Dependent Field" option allows you to assign a dependent field, similar to the current setup?

BTW: when posting these messages on Basecamp, please modify the Subscribers to the relevant people. No need to fill people's inboxes with conversations that they're not involved in.
