Document Conversion Issue

Document conversion in the latest upload seems to be broken. 
  • Any new document we attempt to convert either gets stuck at 1% or fails. 
  • If we attempt to skip upload conversion starts anyway and fails
We know this was working previously so it is likely an upload issue, but please review and let us know as soon as possible. This is currently blocking UAT.

Several of us have tried multiple documents and are encountering multiple issues:

Issue 1 — Cannot upload a document:
User: Admin / admin

  1. Go to Master Lists > Dispute Documents
  2. Select [Upload Document]
  3. I get an error message "This file is already being uploaded please Upload Another File."
  4. Change the name of your file
  5. Attempt upload again
  6. Same error


Issue 2 — PDF Quality Assessment
  1. Go to Master Lists > Dispute Documents
  2. Select [Upload Document]
  3. Document successfully uploads
  4. PDF analysis never progresses past 1%
  5. Start conversion button does not work
  6. Refresh page (takes you to document table)
  7. Find your document in the table (status is conversion in progress)
  8. View document
  9. Document conversion never progresses past 1%


Issue 3 — Conversion does not progress past 1%

  1. Go to Master Lists > Dispute Documents
  2. Select [Upload Document]
  3. Document successfully uploads
  4. PDF quality good
  5. Fill out required fields
  6. Start conversion
  7. Document view loads
  8. Conversion never progresses past 1%


Issue 4 — Upload screen error

  1. Go to Master Lists > Dispute Documents
  2. Select [Upload Document]
  3. Document successfully uploads
  4. PDF analysis does not advance past 1%
  5. Cannot fill out required fields (searchable dropdowns not functioning)
  6. Cannot clear error
The issues are inconsistent across users but we have tried multiple documents, and multiple admin users and no one has successfully been able to convert any document. This will need to be investigated on your end.

After upload new version, we have checked and entered some test entries but we need to see what happened with your cases. will resolve this issue by tomorrow.

We have resolved issue No. 1, 2 & 4. Please check and confirm. For Issue No. 3, We are not able to produce as there was an some issue with PDF file.

Could please provide use that test file of Issue No. 3 ? so, we will check and resolve the issue.

We are still experiencing some issues, however they are very inconsistent. Here are a few examples below:

Th above all issues are related to PDF files.

For 1st issue,  PDF analysis gets stuck at 99.4%

(PDF File :  DD Test445pdf.pdf)

In our environment it was done successfully but somehow on server it always stuck at 99.40%.  We will check and let you know.

For 2nd Issue, PDF analysis gets stuck at 1%

(PDF File :  DD Test445pdf.pdf)

We tried and it works fine.


For 3rd Issue, Conversion Failed

Due to change in PDF to HTML algorithm, The following 2 files were converted failed. We have resolved this issue. you can check with following 2 files.

1) Testnaomi123ON-0133-0001 - Herb Gray Parkway (Windsor-Essex) - Project Agreement.pdf

2) DD Test445pdf.pdf

I also insist you to in future if you find any issue regarding conversion failed then please post this issue on PDF to HTML conversion project. so, our team will look into this.

I'm concerned that the issues above are occurring.

Melissa Cowell, General Manager at Industrial Melissa , could you confirm whether this is preventing you from moving forward with UAT?

Harsh Parikh, Tech Lead at DevIT Harsh , I don't think posting these issue in PDF to HTML conversion is appropriate. That group of to-do's is for dealing with QA issues concerning the output of the conversion tool. This issues above concern the performance of the application. My understanding of the application requirements is that when the conversion fails, the user should be notified of the failure and the prompted for action (skip conversion, try again, etc.). In the examples above, the conversions are stopping half way through with no message to the user explaining why.   

On a broader note, Ketan Sondarva, Technical Project Manager at DevIT Ketan , I'm disappointed that these issues were not caught before the deployment of the release. Issues like this should be tested and identified as part of your QA process. We can't afford to waste time going back-and-forth like this. The quality of the releases needs to improve going forward.

The major issues have been resolved and we have been able to continue with UAT. 

Please also note, that the PDF assessment cards are still in progress for development so it is not surprising that this function is not behaving as expected yet. We will test this feature once it's ready, but for now the larger regression issues are not blocking.
