Marketing site links
Hi
Morgan
We had a call with DevIT this morning to discuss how we will link the new marketing site pages built in Wordpress to the pages being built on the new application (document library + profiles).
It has been determined that the new site and app cannot use 'investorstatelawguide.com' as long as the legacy application is still running, because the domain will be in use.
Since this is the case all new pages will have to have a different domain (currently using rebuild.investorstatelawguide.com). This will include all new marketing site pages + all beta application pages.
As mentioned above these new pages are currently using the prefix 'rebuild'. Given that this will become the primary website and application we suggest a different domain may be better. Perhaps 'new.investorstatelawguide.com' to keep the language consistent.
For the marketing site, we can ensure that all existing marketing site URLs (investorstatelawguide.com) redirect to the new domain.
Let me know your thoughts or if you'd like to discuss further.

Using "new.investorstatelawguide.com" as the domain for the application during the beta period is fine with me. I assume we'll be able to transfer everything to investorstatelawguide.com when we retire the legacy application?
Also, could you confirm that these will be secured pages: https://new.investorstatelawguide.com
Thanks,
Morgan
The above plan seems good. As we can not change anything in current existing legacy application.
Please confirm to us about new beta version domain name as we need to send request to Carbon 60 team to create new domain and then will deploy the rebuild.islg code to the new domain (
https://new.investorstatelawguide.com) once it will be created by carbon 60 team.
Further to the discuss this morning, it appears that the plan proposed above will not work, because it will not allow us to use http://www.investorstatelawguide.com for the new marketing site. As a results, we have proposed the following:

We will discuss this on Monday's call and update you accordingly. I believe

I have discussed with Harsh on changing domain names as proposed by Morgan. However, this seems a bit tricky task to find current legacy app url in legacy application code and we are not sure what related changes we need to make to run application smoothly. Harsh is currently looking into it to check feasibility of this task along with other priority tasks and should update on this by this week.

Note that changing the legacy application URL would have to happen eventually, because we would need the new ISLG to assume the www.investorstatelawguide.com domain eventually. Doing it now may save us more headaches down the road.
Thanks,
Morgan
I can understand your point here but at the same time want Team to focus on our deliverables of ISLG issues & feedbacks to be finished first.
Also, as Harsh is looking into the impact of this change as well to give you clear idea what and how many changes we require to do so. We will share you details asap on this.

During our team meeting on Thursday, you mentioned the domain new.investorstatelawguide.com was set up with Carbon60 which raised a red flag for me..
So Mel, Naomi and I had a meeting with the dev team today to finalize how the marketing site will fit in with the domain and have confirmed the following:
Since new.investorstatelawguide.com is set up on Carbon60 server, we cannot use it for both the marketing site (since it is hosted on a separate server on Digital Ocean) and the new application.
We discussed migrating the marketing site to Carbon60, but since these are completely different setups, these entities cannot live on the same server as they have different requirements. This is an unfortunate drawback of using a CMS that gives you the ability to edit content, versus a custom built website with no editing ability within the application.
In our conversation with the dev team, we propose:
Using the domain app.investorstatelawguide.com for the application, and new.investorstatelawguide.com for the marketing site (we have confirmed that it is possible to use this domain if it is not being used for the app).
The marketing site pages that are fed in from the app will have the app.investorstatelawguide.com domain.
Once the legacy app is no longer using investorstatelawguide.com, the marketing can then assume this domain. However, the fundamental problem is that the site and app cannot share the same domain since they are on separate servers due to their different requirements.
I understand this is not the experience you were hoping for and I apologize that neither the Industrial nor DevIT teams caught this earlier.
Let me know your thoughts or if you have any questions.

Ok. Makes sense, and your proposed solution sounds fine. So should we proceed as follows?
Make sense?
Morgan
Also, how should we deploy a version of the marketing site on staging.investorstatelawguide.com? I'd like get this up an running this week with all the public application pages connected, because we haven't seen these running yet.
Thanks,
Morgan
I've put in the request to Carbon60 to remove new.investorstatelawguide.com and add app.investorstatelawguide.com.
Let me know how you want to setup the marketing site on staging.investorstatelawguide.com. I assume we'll need another subdomain for the site. Perhaps: cms.investorstatelawguide.com?
Thanks,
Morgan
