TOLOGIX - ISLG App Rebuild

Questions Regarding User Management

Hi Morgan,

We are working on the user management feature on the subscriber side, and have a couple questions to clarify how this should work:

  • Should Front end admins and group managers be able to adjust other users statuses?
    • This would imply they would be able to edit users accounts with the same statuses that an ISLG Admin would be able to set. (Active, inactive, archive, delete etc.)
    • If they are able to, will they be able to only activate and deactivate? Or will they also be able to archive as well.
    • If they are not able to do this, will they need to rely on ISLG admins to activate and deactivate users?
  • Is billing for users charged based on active vs inactive? Or is there a different way to determine how many licenses are in use?
    • This will be important if front end admins/group managers are allowed to activate & deactivate users for the purpose of swapping licenses between users in their group without needing to purchase more.
  • Should Front end admins have the ability to permanently delete users, as in the current version of ISLG?

Thanks for your response!

Hi Naomi Joanis, UX Team Lead at Industrial Naomi ,

My answer are in red below:
  • Should Front end admins and group managers be able to adjust other users statuses?
  • Yes, similar to the current application, the main purpose of a group manager is to be able to create, edit and delete accounts. It will be very similar to the options available for ISLG admins except they will not be able to delete or archive accounts. When an account is deleted by the group manager, it will deactivate the account and the group manager will no longer be able to see the account on the front-end, but it will still be visible as a inactive account by the ISLG admin. I suggest reviewing the group manager tool in current ISLG application, because I want it to work in a very similar way. You should have records on these requirements, because your predecessors Stef created them.

  • Group managers are allowed to swap accounts with new users as they see fit. ISLG admins will monitor this activity and intervene as necessary.

  • Should Front end admins have the ability to permanently delete users, as in the current version of ISLG?
  • No. See above.

As a general comment, please ensure that you review the requirements that were outlined when we revamped the ISLG login system in 2018. I believe there is still a TargetProcess project dealing with this (ISLG Public Site). The main requirements for the group manager tool should remain largely the same between the current and new applications.

Thanks,

Hi Naomi Joanis, UX Team Lead at Industrial Naomi ,

Following up on message above, I had another idea for dealing with the swapping of accounts. In the current application we allow the ISLG admins to create new accounts with an email address that is already associated with another account in the system. I would like to maintain that flexibility in the new application; however, perhaps we restrict that ability for front-end group managers and admins. That way if an account is deleted through the front-end user management tool (i.e., the account is deactivated and appears to the ISLG admin as an inactive account, but is not visible to group manager or admin through the front-end user management tool), when they attempt to add another account with the same email address, the group manager or admin will be prompted "Email address used has already been used for a previously deleted account. Please contact subscriptions@investorstatelawguide.com to add an account with this email address." This will ensure inappropriate account swapping does not occur, and forces the group manager or admin to contact us to override the issue in special circumstances.
