Tagging - Knowledge Transfer

Hi Jitesh Dhuravala, DevIT Jitesh and Harsh Parikh, Tech Lead at DevIT Harsh

Do you have some time next week for a call with Kevin so he can pass along some of his knowledge on tagging in order for you and your team to take over and come up with a solution? We are free Tuesday next week at 10am or 11am and Wednesday at 9am.

Let me know and I will send a meeting invite.

Hi Jitesh Dhuravala, DevIT Jitesh and Harsh Parikh, Tech Lead at DevIT Harsh ,

A while ago, when we were first discussing the issues of tagging across multiple paragraphs, I had started to think about a possible, theoretical approach based on the "clones" being generated when selecting text.

As I moved on to other tasks on the project, it never found its way out of our office, but since we're still looking for a way to solve this, I thought you could have a look at it. Now it may not help you at all, but I nevertheless wanted to share it with you, just in case.

If you look at the first screen, you'll see what was then the current situation. Making a selection inside a single paragraph generated a clone below it and worked fine. Making a selection across multiple paragraphs generated multiple clones that weren't related.

I thought if there was a way to use data attributes to link together all the clones generated for a single selection, then this data could be stored, either alongside document text or elsewhere and be used at runtime to generate tags, including those that span across multiple paragraphs.

If you look at the second screen, you'll see I added more attributes to link together different clones created by one selection. That way, every clone with the same "Tag ID" attribute could be linked, and ordered according to the "Tag Range" attribute.

Again, you may have moved beyond this or it may not even be useful, but it makes more sense for you to have it than for it to gather dust here.
