TOLOGIX - ISLG App Rebuild

WYSIWYG Editor

Hi Morgan Maguire, CEO Morgan ,

After a bit of exploration, we have found the editor that's being used is a free, open-source project called Trumbowyg (more here if you're interested: https://alex-d.github.io/Trumbowyg/).

It appears as though it's currently implemented with all the functionality available, though by playing around with it, I figured we do have access to headers 1 to 4 (H1, H2, H3, H4):

Adding features to this would mean developing custom tools for it, which at this point I don't think anyone will consider. This leaves us with two (2) scenarios:
  1. Keep the current editor as is; or
  2. Replace it with another, more commonly used editor, such as TinyMCE or CKEditor, which provide much more out of the box.

If it is adamant that we have extra features such as indent-outdent and the ability to insert H5s and H6s (please add to the list as needed), then we'll have to look at the second option and loop DevIT in, so they can assess how and when this can be accomplished.

Hi Guillaume Morin-Simard, UX Designer/Researcher at Industrial Guillaume ,

Thanks for looking into this further.  I'm willing to pay for a more out of the box editor if it can provide us with all the features we want. I'd rather have an editor that can seamlessly allow us to perform the edits we need, rather than trying to customize an open source solution.

As far as the required features, I think the following are going to be common edits:
  • inserting/correcting headings
  • inserting/correcting paragraph numbers
  • correcting the alignment of paragraphs and bullets
  • formatting text with underline, bold and italics
Whatever editor we decide to use should give the admin user and intuitive, easy way to make these edits.

Also, I'm not sure this is dealt with on the HTML template level, rather than the editor, but we need to ensure that all HTML documents are presented in accordance with our branding guide: ISLG-BrandGuide.pdf - TOLOGIX - ISLG Public & Members Site Design, and that any edits made through the editor will maintain Aktiv typeface as outlined on Page 9.

Note I've added others to the message thread.

Thanks,

Morgan
