✔ Problems with dependent fields

Further to the video below, this is actually two issues:

  1. Meta field management system does not allow for creation of a parent field with dependent fields where the option selected in the parent field will determine what dependent fields are presented to the editor (i.e., dependent fields are connected to specific values in the parent field).
  2. Selecting Searchable Dropdown as the option for the meta field, appears to block the dependent fields from appearing

The functionality you are looking for here would be very complex and likely is not achievable without the concept of master lists and/or hard coded fields. This relies on logic within the fields that does not exist. 

We have proposed similar functionality for ISLG, however this relies on the selection of a master list record or record type to define the values:

It should also be noted that DevIT has cautioned us around the complexity of this feature and has yet to confirm how they plan to execute it. 

That being said, there may be ways to achieve a similar result:

Dependent fields are currently setup to display if a (any) value is added to the parent field. In the scenario you described above, you could:
  • Create a field set for Sector
  • Within the field set, create a separate dropdown for each parent sector option
    • The dropdown would include only one option (Yes) and no default selection
  • Create dependent fields for each parent sector
    • Dropdown field with options for the corresponding sub sectors
Result: Based on the selection of yes in the parent sector field, a secondary dropdown field for sub sector would be presented with only the corresponding sub sectors available as options.

Also, let's ensure the second issue described above is resolved.
