Assigned to
Harsh Parikh, Tech Lead at DevIT Harsh P. Melissa Cowell, General Manager at Industrial Melissa C. Naomi Joanis, UX Team Lead at Industrial Naomi J.
Notes
Further to the video below, could you please modify the UI for multi-select searchable dropdown menus so that when a value is selected from the list of options, the menu stays open at the point in the list so that the user can easily select additional values without losing their place in the menu. Please implement on both admin and subscribers sites.

Hi Morgan Maguire, CEO Morgan ,

I have logged improvement cards for this issue on both the subscriber and admin sides in Target Process. On the subscriber side, I have this and the other dropdown menu card moved to 'planned' and assigned to Harsh Parikh, Tech Lead at DevIT Harsh

Hi Morgan Maguire, CEO Morgan ,

As discussed on Friday Call, This change has been done in All Master Listing Page and Add/Edit Page on rebuild.islg.
Morgan Maguire, CEO
Looks good Harsh Parikh, Tech Lead at DevIT Harsh .

Naomi Joanis, UX Team Lead at Industrial Naomi , let me know how you want to deal with modifying the requirements for the multi-select dropdown menus on the subscriber side. On Friday, we discussed changing the UI to accommodate the technical limitation (e.g., a checkbox system for making selections). We should probably track this as a separate to-do, but I wanted to confirm with you first, before I mark the to-do above complete.

Thanks,

Morgan

Hi Morgan Maguire, CEO Morgan ,

This morning on our call, Harsh Parikh, Tech Lead at DevIT Harsh showed us a new UI they implemented which I believe solves almost all of the issues raised. This way:

  • Users don't have to type before seeing the options available in the list
  • As users select an item from the list, the list remains open and maintains the place in the list.
  • When an item from the list is selected, the item is greyed out in the list, and populated in the field.
  • The list can be browsed through scrolling or dragging the scroll bar
The only issue I see remaining, is that when users delete a previously selected item, the list closes. Ideally, the list will remain open in this case and the pill will be removed, and the item becomes clickable in the list again. Harsh is looking into adding this functionality.

Will this work for you for the subscriber side multi-select dropdown?

Hi Naomi Joanis, UX Team Lead at Industrial Naomi and Harsh Parikh, Tech Lead at DevIT Harsh ,

The new UI on the subscriber side looks great. As I've described in the video below, I don't have an issue with the deleting the previously selected item and the list closing if that can't be resolved easily.

At the same, as I've outlined in the video, could we please resolved the following issues:
  • Ensure menu options are opening above/below the field consistent (my preference would be to have the options open below the field)
  • Ensure there is consistent formatting between all dropdown menus
  • Ensure the data range filter has the ability to select specific years and manually inputted dates. I suggest using the Google AdWords as an example. I will post another to-d with more details).

Hi Morgan Maguire, CEO Morgan ,

Since this implementation works for you, does it make sense to close this to-do? I can go ahead and create separate cards in target process for the three other items raised in this video, as they relate to other list items besides multi-select.
Morgan Maguire, CEO
Sure. I'll mark the to-do complete.

I've created separate to-do's for the following:
Could you insert links to any applicable user stories in those to-do's. Note that these to-do's may require some modifications to the HTML templates.

Thanks,

Morgan
