Hi Melissa Cowell, General Manager at Industrial Melissa and Naomi Joanis, UX Team Lead at Industrial Naomi ,

Further to the issue above, is this a problem with the requirements or a problem with the application?

Thanks,

Morgan

Hi Morgan Maguire, CEO Morgan

The requirements for sharing to users outside of a group were limited to sharing with ISLG subscribers outside of ones group (https://industrialagency.tpondemand.com/entity/7676-rn-greater-topic-view-greater-share). However when trying to test this I'm experiencing the same bug I did when I first tested this feature that was resolved: https://industrialagency.tpondemand.com/entity/18047-rn-greater-share-greater-cannot-send

I've reopened that bug that is not acknowledging other users as ISLG subscribers and therefore preventing me from sending the research topic to another user outside of my group.

Hi Naomi Joanis, UX Team Lead at Industrial Naomi ,

Could you clarify a point above, when you say this feature is being used to share "with ISLG subscribers outside of ones group" are you saying this couldn't be used to send the research topic to a non-ISLG subscriber? If so, why not?

My understanding is that any email address could be entered, and this would result in the person receiving a system generated email with a link to access the topic. Is that not the case?

Another concern, if we're limiting this so that you can only share with ISLG subscribers, could this be used as a mechanism for a user to identify whether another user is an ISLG subscriber? If that's the case, we may have a problem, because the terms of our subscription agreement protect the anonymity of our users (unless they are from the same group).

Thanks,

Morgan

This does open a broader conversation.

Opening a shared notepad topic requires to user to have access to the application. The action duplicates the original user's research notepad topic and entries into the recipient's research notepad. The recipient user is notified by email and in the application that the topic has been shared.
Due to technical limitation, none of the documents or other entry data is included in the email or attached to the notification. This was a compromise made during the development of the feature approximately 6 months ago.

To share with non-subscribers, users could download the topic and email the zip file.

As for the privacy concerns, we can remove the validation message when sharing with a user outside their group - however this would mean the user would have no indication of whether the research topic was successfully shared or not.

Hi Melissa Cowell, General Manager at Industrial Melissa ,

Ok. This makes sense. We'll park the sharing of topics with non-ISLG subscribers for the time being.

Re privacy concerns, the validation message is fine. My concern that this may have some kind of auto-suggest function that would list emails or usernames as the user types into the email field. Could you confirm whether that's the case? If not, we should be fine to keep things as is.

Thanks,

Morgan

I have just confirmed on rebuilddemo that auto-suggest is only available for users within your group.

OK. Sounds good. We'll just keep the current requirements then.
