TOLOGIX - ISLG App Rebuild

Problem with continuous paragraph number groupings when analyzing documents in Subject Navigator

Assigned to
Melissa Cowell, General Manager at Industrial Melissa C.
Notes
Further to the video below, there are issues with create Subject Navigator references when you want to create references across a group of continuous paragraphs:
  1. If an excerpt is created across multiple paragraphs, rather than display this pinpoint references as a group (Excerpt from: pa3-4), it displays each paragraph excerpt separately (Excerpt from: pa3, Excerpt from: pa4).
  2. When manually creating a grouping of paragraph references, the excerpts are not getting displayed as groups within the master tree, nor are they captured within the HTML text.
Resolving these issues is very important, because paragraph number grouping is used extensively across the existing ISLG application, and resolving this issue will be crucial to ensuring we can migration existing Subject Navigator data to the new application.

This is a complex issue and we did discuss this as a group earlier on in the project. It is my recollection that, at that time we agreed that admins would be able to create paragraph range within the modal (ex: pa3-pa12) but that upon save the paragraph range would be split into separate paragraphs.

I have created a bug for the range creation issue:

I suggest we all discuss the broader issue again in our checkin.

OK Melissa Cowell, General Manager at Industrial Melissa . I'll add this to the agenda for today's call.

My primary concerns are the following:
  • Data within the existing application groups paragraphs and this needs to be considered in the content how that data will be interpreted and migrated to the new application.
  • Displaying consecutive paragraph numbers in groups is much clearer from a subscriber's perspective, and conforms with industry citation standards.
  • From an admin analysis perspective, we need to offer the ability to enter paragraphs as groups (e.g., pa30-pa50) to avoid the tedious exercise of entering each paragraph. Note in video above, entering "4-10" failed to produce a paragraph grouping.
Thanks,

Morgan

Hi Naomi Joanis, UX Team Lead at Industrial Naomi ,

The issues reported in this to-do that are unresolved. In particular:
  • Excerpts that span multiple paragraphs are not getting converted to a group of consecutive paragraphs (e.g., rather than creating separate pills for Excerpt from: pa7 and Excerpt from: pa8, it should be creating one pill for Excerpt from: pa7-pa8).
  • When manually adding a subject navigator entry through the Subject Navigator Master Tree in the sidebar, there are two issues:
    1. the Quick Links, Branch Text and Document UIN fields are not automatically populated with data relevant to the document being reviewed, and
    2. it is not possible to add groups of consecutive paragraphs (e.g., pa7-pa8).
Please let me know the status on these issues, and whether these were integrated into the requirements. Note that these are all pre-launch requirements that were discussed extensively when they were raised in the summer.

Thanks,

Morgan

Hi Morgan Maguire, CEO Morgan ,

Since we weren't able to capture it on the call this afternoon, here is a recording of the process currently of manually adding a paragraph range in analyze: subject navigator mode to share with the team.
Morgan Maguire, CEO
Perfect. Thanks Naomi Joanis, UX Team Lead at Industrial Naomi .

Paul Moon Paul , let's discuss this and ensure we can capture all your requirements given the technical limitations.

Thanks,

Morgan

Hello Harsh Parikh, Tech Lead at DevIT Harsh and Naomi Joanis, UX Team Lead at Industrial Naomi ,

I discussed the requirements with Paul Moon Paul and we can live with the current behaviour where the groups of consecutive paragraphs references are separated into separate pills when the excerpts are saved. However, I want to explore the possibility of combining those into a single reference on the subscriber side of the application.

In addition, upon further testing of the system, we discovered a number of other bugs outlined in the video below:
  1. Unable to add multiple groups of consecutive paragraphs to the same Subject Navigator entry (this will be a frequent occurrence in the date, because editor will frequently refer to multiple groups within the same reference).
  2. Overlapping excerpts are not displaying the required SN bubble and staggered sidebar.
  3. Cannot delete excerpts.
